about sarah stitt
Sarah Stitt was born and educated in London at St Martin’s School of Art and City and Guilds of London Art School. Having earned a reputation as a painter of portraits and urban landscapes in the UK she then moved to Los Angeles in 2005. Sarah Stitt discovers the American Dream, untarnished and bubblegum-bright. She creates a visual diary of the landscapes she inhabits as well as the people she encounters. Initially she was inspired by a trip she took to New York where, sitting between the water- towers on friends’ roofs, and perched on Brooklyn Bridge, she painted city-scapes, from the emerald greens of Central Park to Midtown’s crystalline peaks. Painting with an unprejudiced eye, Sarah Stitt is drawn to areas which betray the organic nature of urban growth and the meeting of man-made developments and nature, such as the glow of neon against an evening sky. These are images of both fantasy and pedestrian truth, but refreshingly grit-free.
